Public Policy
Bass, Berry & Sims is a recognized leader in navigating the intersection of government and business, and advocating for our clients' interests across legislative, executive, and regulatory landscapes. With a proven track record in landmark public policy initiatives, tax matters, healthcare regulatory compliance, and environmental law, our firm offers comprehensive services designed to protect and advance business interests while managing complex regulatory environments.
Areas of Focus
Government Advocacy
We serve as advocates for clients before the Tennessee General Assembly and executive branch. Our team represents clients in their interactions with various state government agencies, spanning from the General Assembly to numerous executive branch departments, agencies, boards, and commissions. As leaders in public policy, we have been instrumental in advocating for issues such as tort reform.
Environmental
Established nearly 30 years ago as the first full-service environmental practice in Tennessee, our Environmental Practice handles litigation, transactional, and regulatory matters across air and water pollution, hazardous waste, Superfund remediations, and climate change initiatives. With strong relationships at Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), we ensure effective representation and regulatory compliance.
Healthcare Regulatory
Utilizing a multi-disciplinary approach, we excel in resolving litigation, regulatory, and transactional matters within the healthcare industry. We assist clients in navigating complex issues associated with Tennessee's Certificate of Need (CON) program, including advisory opinions, CON applications, and representation throughout the review process and agency hearings.
Regulatory & Administrative Proceedings
We specialize in navigating federal and state regulatory environments, advocating for clients in federal investigations and state regulatory hearings before agencies like the U.S. Department of Justice and Tennessee regulatory bodies.
State & Local Tax (SALT)
Our nationally recognized SALT Practice Group offers strategic advice and representation on state and local tax matters. We handle a significant majority of state and local tax disputes in Tennessee, advocate legislative initiatives for favorable tax policies, and provide comprehensive multi-state tax planning.
