Liat Martinez focuses her practice on the development and protection of clients’ intellectual property assets, with an emphasis on trademark law and brand development and protection. Liat advises clients across a broad range of industries to develop trademark filing, protection, and enforcement strategies.

Her practice involves:

  • Trademark Searching and Clearance – Conducting and reviewing trademark clearance searches and advising clients on the adoption, use, enforcement, and registration of trademarks.
  • Trademark Filing, Prosecution, and Registration – Prosecuting trademark applications domestically and internationally, including filing applications, assignment agreements, and responding to substantive Office Actions.
  • Trademark Protection and Enforcement – Performing legal research and preparing filings and motions for trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board; monitoring trademarks for infringement.

Prior to joining Bass, Berry & Sims, Liat was an associate with a nationally recognized firm in Washington, D.C. During law school, she was a judicial extern for the Honorable Anna H. Demacopoulos of the Circuit Court of Cook County in Illinois and a teaching assistant.
