Bass, Berry & Sims attorney Tim Garrett commented on the NLRB’s refusal to exercise jurisdiction over the unionization effort by scholarship football players at Northwestern University. The players argued they were employees of the university and should be allowed to form a union. As stated by Tim for the article, “[t]he board ruled that asserting jurisdiction in the case would not promote stability in labor relations. The NLRB emphasized that Northwestern is the only private university in the Big Ten, and that it does not have jurisdiction over public universities.”
