Bass, Berry & Sims attorneys Michael Hess, Richard Mattern and Shannon Wiley were recently inducted into the Memphis Bar Foundation’s 2024 Fellows. This year, 33 attorneys and judges were invited to join this prestigious group of individuals recognized for their service to the legal profession and the community. The new members were honored at a reception held at The University Club of Memphis on April 25.

The mission of the Memphis Bar Foundation is to promote philanthropy among members of the Bar; advocate and support public awareness of the legal system, promote social justice and legal education; and encourage and recognize professionalism among members of the Bar. Michael Hess

Michael leads the firm’s Specialty Pharmacy & Pharmaceuticals Practice Group. Utilizing his extensive experience as both in-house counsel and as a private practice attorney, he now serves as the outside general counsel for many of the nation’s largest independent specialty, infusion, mail order and mental health pharmacies, and pharmacy benefit management and pharma service companies. Michael’s strategic business advice and transactional and regulatory guidance helps manufacturers and pharmacies get high-cost, complex specialty drugs from the manufacturer’s warehouse to the patient’s door, safely, legally, effectively and efficiently. Richard Mattern

Richard Mattern represents both public and private companies in a variety of corporate and securities law matters, helping clients achieve goals that support their overall strategic initiatives. As primary corporate and securities counsel to several NYSE- and Nasdaq-listed companies, he has represented clients in transactions ranging from $10 million to $1.4 billion as well as securities offerings ranging from $4 million to $6 billion. Shannon Wiley

Shannon focuses her practice on healthcare regulatory and transactional matters with a specific emphasis on the pharmaceutical industry specializing in specialty pharmacy, digital pharmacy and infusion providers. She assists clients with transactional and regulatory matters involving ambulatory infusion centers, management relationships for health system pharmacies and infusion practices, home infusion, specialty pharmacy, digital pharmacy, limited distribution networks, pharmacy services agreements, the 340B program and associated contract pharmacy relationships, hub arrangements, data services arrangements, and GPO agreements.
