Salvadoran Military Leader Brought to Justice

The firm prevailed at a jury trial in Memphis against the former Vice Minister of Defense of El Salvador, who carried out a campaign of violence against civilians during the country’s civil war. The defendant was ordered to pay $6 million in damages to the firm’s five clients for the torture they endured and for the murder of their family members. The verdict was the first time any court had held that the Salvadoran military committed crimes against humanity during the civil war.
