Bass, Berry & Sims attorney Liat Martinez will serve as a moderator on a panel at the American Bar Association’s 2026 Intellectual Property Law Section Annual Meeting. The panel presentation, taking place on Thursday, April 16 at 9:45 AM, is titled “The Other Stuff: An Update on Trade Secret, Right of Publicity, and Industrial Design Law” and will explore the year’s highlights on topics including trade secret identification and damages calculations. Recent cases and legislation concerning rights to individuals’ names, images, and likenesses, and how they can protect the free speech of those who employ them, will also be addressed.
The panel will also discuss recent appellate decisions addressing industrial designs, as well as the Patent & Trademark Office’s approach to graphical user interface design patents. Presenters on the panel include Nathanael Andrews – Software & Information; Joshua Simmons – Kirkland & Ellis LLP; and Ben Sheffner – Motion Picture Associates. The conference will take place at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C. from April 15–17.
