Christian Mahre advises private equity sponsors and both public and private companies on a full spectrum of mergers and acquisitions, private equity transactions, and other complex corporate matters. He represents clients across the energy, infrastructure, industrials, and technology sectors, guiding them through strategic transactions that include acquisitions, divestitures, preferred equity investments, joint ventures, and large‑scale corporate reorganizations.
His practice includes counseling sponsors, investors, management teams, and boards on transactions, commercial agreements, corporate governance and compliance considerations. He serves as a trusted point of contact for clients, leading negotiations, coordinating with financial and operational advisors, and managing all aspects of the deal process.
Prior to joining Bass, Berry & Sims, Christian was a corporate partner at Kirkland & Ellis LLP, where he advised clients across a range of industries on significant strategic and financial transactions with an emphasis on work in the private equity and private capital space.
Before entering private practice, Christian served as a Captain in the U.S. Army. As an infantry officer, over the course of two combat deployments to Afghanistan he commanded an air assault rifle platoon and an infantry company. His military service contributes to his strengths in leadership, steady crisis management, and strategic decision‑making – skills he draws on regularly in his legal practice.
Christian earned his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, where he was actively involved in pro bono veteran advocacy and student governance, and he holds a Bachelor of Science from the United States Military Academy at West Point with a major in history and a concentration in nuclear engineering. During law school he served as an intern at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Office of International Affairs.
