Bass, Berry & Sims M&A and private equity attorney Ryan Thomas offered guidance for Nashville-based companies seeking funding in a guest column for Nashville Business Journal’s special report on venture capital. According to Ryan, despite being among the fastest growing economies in the country, Nashville’s funding gap presents a challenge for local companies seeking sizable investments. However, companies seeking larger checks of $20 million to $50 million can navigate that challenge by either creating a local syndicate of investors or looking to the coasts for large-scale investment firms. Regardless of which option a company picks, Ryan offers the following advice to build networks that help secure larger funding:
- Develop relationships with experienced advisers;
- Attend meetings of investment-oriented organizations; and
- Identify and network with local and national power players of investment.
