Bass, Berry & Sims attorney Angela Humphreys was quoted in a Modern Healthcare article discussing private equity investors in the healthcare space and their increasing focus on specialty healthcare providers.

Physician practices have been appealing for private equity investors for years because of the sector’s economic resilience, portion of the U.S. economic spending and opportunities to create more efficiency in the fragmented industry.

“Any ability to include or have a value-based component around those practices is very attractive to private equity firms,” said Angela. “They are able to bring to bear efficiencies that of course help with the bottom line but also improve patient care.”

Speaking to the immense competition for physician practices, Angela also said she expects to see more transactions between private equity players or sponsor-to-sponsor transactions.
