Bass, Berry & Sims attorney Nesrin Tift joined Baxter Lee, the CFO of Clearwater, to provide insight for the American Health Law Association (AHLA) Speaking of Health Law podcast about HIPAA compliance and cybersecurity concerns for physician practice groups. As consolidation within the industry continues to grow, many practices are facing the challenges that clinical integration – which allows a practice to take advantage of certain value-based care arrangements – brings with necessary technological integration. This integration can potentially put physician practice groups at greater risk for cyberattacks. The pandemic also contributed to widespread adoption of telehealth which contributed to the potentially unsecure relay of information and reduced cybersecurity.
To help prevent cyberattacks and remain in compliance with HIPAA regulations, Nesrin recommends companies stay nimble and up-to-date with the changing technology and rules to adopt the most recent cybersecurity methods.
