Bass, Berry & Sims attorney Danielle Sloane provided insight on the newly announced collaboration between the Department of Veteran’s Affairs (VA) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to combat healthcare fraud and abuse. With this partnership, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will share data and technology with the VA to identify and prevent potential fraud. “Increased anti-fraud collaboration between government agencies like the VA and the CMS will likely increase the government’s ability to use data to identify and investigate potential fraud… However, any partnerships need to be carefully crafted to give affected providers and suppliers a clear path to address and resolve any potential missteps,” Danielle commented on the collaboration.
