This year, the MBA’s Access to Justice Committee recognizes Bass, Berry & Sims as a Champion of Justice for the firm’s long-time commitment to pro bono work. These pro bono efforts include the annual “Give a Little, Help a Lot” Legal Aid Clinic that Bass, Berry & Sims, in partnership with AutoZone’s legal department and Memphis Area Legal Services’ (MALS), have hosted together for the last 11 years. During the event, attorney and paralegal volunteers provide low-income seniors with essential legal guidance and assist with the preparation of advance care plans, healthcare directives, durable power of attorney forms, as well as last wills and testaments.

For the last several years, Bass, Berry & Sims has also served as MALS’ Pillar Law Firm for pro bono adoption matters. Attorneys from the firm work together to unite families through adoption.

Later this year, Bass, Berry & Sims will partner with AutoZone’s legal department to sponsor the 2nd Annual Saturday Legal Aid Clinic on November 9 to provide legal advice to community members. The pro bono counsel provided at this event helps individuals without the financial means to hire an attorney, providing necessary legal representation and assistance.

In recognition of the firm’s commitment to helping those within the community through these and other pro bono initiatives, MBA chose to recognize Bass, Berry & Sims with the Champion of Justice Award this year. The award will be distributed at the 2019 Pro Bono Awards Luncheon on October 28 at International Paper.
