Brian Roark Recognized as Pro Bono Champion by AHLA

June 18, 2015

Bass, Berry & Sims attorney Brian Roark was named a 2014 Pro Bono Champion by the American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA). Brian was recognized for his work representing the owner of an ambulance service provider that was indicted on charges of Medicare and Medicaid fraud. Bass, Berry & Sims was involved in the case since 2010 and attorneys at the firm devoted more than 4,400 pro bono hours to the case. Brian was instrumental in leading the team of attorneys for the last five years and personally devoted nearly 600 hours throughout the trial and appeal process, including obtaining reversal of the defendant’s aggravated identity theft conviction in a published decision by the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Since 2011, AHLA has been recognizing members who have devoted a significant amount of their pro bono hours to cases involving health law-related issues. The honorees have increased the availability and quality of healthcare, provided the healthcare community with needed access to the legal system and represent excellence in fulfilling the volunteer tradition of the legal profession.
