Bass, Berry & Sims attorney Brant Phillips provided commentary for an article in the Nashville Scene discussing the open federal judicial positions in Nashville and the impact the open seats are having on litigants. Brant observed that the combination of limited judicial resources and an ever-growing caseload in Nashville is hampering the timely resolution of many civil cases and highlights the need for swift reform in the appointments process. “Our district, because we have judges who are extraordinarily dedicated to their work and have tremendous staff supporting them, are continuing to shoulder the burden, but if we don’t do something to reform the judicial nomination and confirmation process to make it less contentious and less time-consuming, you’re going to see, I think, more people having second thoughts about stepping forward to be considered for those positions,” Brant was quoted as saying in the article.
