Bass, Berry & Sims attorney Clint Hermes discussed his work with biomedical research regulatory matters on the podcast “The Art of Medicine, Episode #11, Legal Aspects of Biomedical Research.” During the interview, Clint discussed the importance of institutional review boards (IRBs) to protect human subjects as well as new regulations that mandate a single central IRB rather than multiple IRBs for federally funded studies.
The podcast also reviewed laws that were enacted to prevent a recurrence of past unethical research trials in the United States, such as the Tuskegee syphilis study, and regulations “aimed at ensuring data integrity and product safety.”
