Memphis, Tenn., (May 16, 2016) – Bass, Berry & Sims PLC is pleased to announce that Richard F. Mattern has joined as a member in the firm’s office in Memphis. He joins the Corporate Practice Group, which also added Oscar L. Thomas to the group in Memphis earlier this year. Mattern represents public and private companies in a variety of corporate and securities law matters, helping clients achieve goals to support their overall strategic initiative.

At Bass, Berry & Sims, Mattern focuses his practice on corporate matters related to mergers and acquisitions, capital raising, corporate governance, SEC regulatory reporting and compliance, corporate finance, venture capital and private equity financing. He frequently represents both public and private companies in a wide range of industries, with a particular focus in the medical device, real estate investment trust (REIT), manufacturing and banking industries. He has experience representing several NYSE and NASDAQ listed companies in transactions ranging from $10 million to $1.4 billion, as well as securities offerings ranging from $4 million to $6 billion.

Outside of the firm, Mattern is an active member of the American Bar Association, where he is part of the Business Law Section’s Committee on Mergers and Acquisitions. In addition to his involvement in professional organizations, Mattern also sits on the Board of Junior Achievement, the world’s largest organization dedicated to educating students about workforce readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy through experiential, hands-on programs.

Prior to joining Bass, Berry & Sims, Mattern was a shareholder in the Memphis office of Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz P.C. Mattern earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee, and his law degree from Emory University School of Law.
