Since their creation nearly 10 years ago, RACs have faced praise and criticism from industry insiders. Anna points out that “while RAC recoveries appear to show the program has been a success, that success is undermined by the large number of RAC denials that are overturned on appeal.” She is quoted as recommending that “CMS should take steps in its award of new contracts to ensure that the RACs are accurately reviewing claims.”
