Bass, Berry & Sims, led by attorney Jessie Zeigler, represents Security Signals, Inc. (SSI), a woman-owned government contractor that historically manufactured ammunition for World War II, in the investigation and remediation of a site with multiple plumes of chlorinated-solvent contaminated groundwater, with multiple sources. Incorporated in 1948, the small family business has been facing an enormous environmental problem.

Jessie negotiated a Superfund Alternative Site Agreement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This resulted in the publication of a Record of Decision for the use of phytoremediation to clean up Operable Unit 2. She also negotiated a very lengthy and involved Consent Decree for a several million dollar remediation of this Operable Unit, along with negotiating a settlement agreement with the U.S. Department of Defense wherein it paid SSI for a significant portion of the responses costs. Additionally, she negotiated a Natural Resources Damages Settlement with the State of Tennessee. Our team will continue to assist SSI in complying with the terms of these agreements going forward.
