Bass, Berry & Sims attorneys Lisa Rivera and Meredith Thompson will speak at a regional CLE workshop, “Brave New World: Emerging Cyber and Electronic Issues in Health Care Litigation,” presented by the ABA Section of Health Law Litigation Committee and Products Liability Committee.  Meredith will moderate and Lisa will serve as a panelist during the session, titled “The Interplay Between Social Media and Healthcare Privacy.” The session will address the ever-increasing lawsuits brought by patients and residents of healthcare providers after their pictures and personal information surface on social media.  Topics will include:

  • How providers’ privacy obligations are affected by the likes of Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat
  • Causes of action for invasion of privacy, infliction of emotional distress and violations of HIPAA
  • Best practices for developing social media policies and procedures
  • Management of employees’ use of devices at work
