Bass, Berry & Sims members Matt Curley and Lisa Rivera will be speaking at the Healthcare Law & Compliance Institute sponsored by the International Practice Management Institute (IPMI). The Institute brings together healthcare general counsel and compliance officers of providers throughout the United States for robust discussions of the most challenging compliance and enforcement issues facing the healthcare industry.

Matt will be presenting in two panel discussions. The first titled “Critical Insights, Updates and Considerations in the Healthcare Law Landscape” in which Matt, alongside co-panelists Michelle Johnson (CommonSpirit Health), Eric Klein (Sheppard Mullin) and Leigh Oliver (Clifford Chance) will cover legal developments, regulatory challenges and strategic considerations impacting healthcare providers in a rapidly evolving industry.

Matt will also present alongside Nate Schott (Former Owner of Dental Excellence) in the panel titled “Healthcare Fraud Enforcement: A First-Person Perspective. This panel will provide a first-person perspective of Dr. Nate Schott, former owner of a multi-location dental practice, in navigating healthcare fraud enforcement issues and his experience in pleading guilty to federal healthcare fraud-related charges. It will offer an authentic look at key decision points and lessons learned for healthcare providers facing a government investigation.

Lisa will moderate in the panel titled “Enterprise-Wide Risk: Preparing for DEA (Onsite and Unannounced!) Inspections and DOJ Enforcement of the Control Substances Act.” alongside co-panelist Susannah Herkert (GuidePost Solutions) and Lisa Jurinka (Alto Pharmacy). This panel will discuss requirements under the CSA, what to expect during a DEA onsite visit, and how to prepare and train your entire team.
