Bass, Berry & Sims attorney Roy Wyman will serve on a panel for an upcoming webinar, “Creating a Culture of Cybersecurity Among Researchers,” hosted by The Chronicle of Higher Education.
For professors engaged in research, security and compliance are typically an afterthought to their discipline and scientific discovery. In addition, researchers have generally valued collaborative relationships with talent from abroad as many researchers in the United States are immigrants. However, rising cybersecurity threats coupled with perceived threats about the theft of U.S. intellectual property have created a need for a culture of cybersecurity.
The panelists will share how and why scholars must keep their research secure and explore the following topics:
- How to help researchers understand and prioritize security risks.
- How to create strategies for balancing collaboration and protection.
- How to effectively train and educate researchers to be more aware of securing their work.
Roy will be joined by fellow panelists:
- Darren Hayes, Associate Professor and Director of Cybersecurity Program at Pace University
- Kim Milford, Chief Information Security and Privacy Officer at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
- Joseph Nwankpa, Associate Professor & FSB Director of Cybersecurity Initiatives at Miami University
- Ed Skoudis, President of SANS Technology Institute
The webinar will be held Tuesday, May 13 at 2:00 p.m. ET. Details and registration information can be found here.
Following the live event, the content is available to watch on-demand.
