We successfully defended the largest orthopaedic physician practice in Tennessee in response to Civil Investigative Demands (CIDs) issued by the State of Tennessee and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Tennessee in response to a qui tam lawsuit. The qui tam complaint alleged the physician practice engaged in a number of fraudulent practices related to its billing and coding of services billed to beneficiaries of government healthcare programs. After over 18 months of investigation, the government declined to intervene in the matter, and following the government’s declination, the relator voluntarily dismissed the case.
