Community Legal Professionals Team Up To Provide Free Services
Memphis, Tenn., (July 5, 2012) – On Tuesday, July 10, AutoZone, Inc., and Bass, Berry & Sims PLC in conjunction with Memphis Area Legal Services (MALS) will host their fourth annual pro bono legal clinic at the Orange Mound Senior Center, 2590 Park Avenue, to assist Memphis-area seniors from 10 a.m. to noon.
“We know from experience that seniors are generally underserved in the area of legal representation at a time in their lives when it’s most essential that they have their legal affairs in order,” said Kristen Wright, vice president, assistant general counsel at AutoZone and co-founder of the pro bono clinic at Orange Mound Senior Center, one of the largest senior community centers in the area.
“Each year that we conduct this clinic, we see so much need from seniors seeking help with important legal issues,” said Sehrish Siddiqui, attorney at Bass, Berry & Sims and clinic volunteer coordinator. “Our pro bono clinic offers an opportunity to help a large number of seniors obtain convenient access to legal services and get the care they need in order to protect themselves and their families.”
During the clinic, attorneys, paralegals and other volunteers from Bass, Berry & Sims PLC, AutoZone and Memphis Area Legal Services will come together to assist seniors with the preparation of advance care plans, health care directives, durable power of attorney forms, wills and other essential legal advice.
“This legal access is an absolute priority for the senior community,” said Linda Warren Seely, director of Pro Bono Projects and managing attorney of MALS. “We encourage all seniors in need of legal assistance to attend this clinic.”
