The Nashville Business Journal published an article, “Think the Mega Pacific Trade Deal Won’t Impact Nashville? Think Again,” outlining the details of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and its potential local impact. The story followed the firm’s hosting of a Trans-Pacific Partnership Panel Discussion on March 31, 2016 featuring several international business leaders.
The trade deal, which would be the largest trade agreement ever, could potentially provide tax relief and/or new market opportunities for Nashville-based businesses across a number of industry sectors, including healthcare, automotive, manufacturing and commercial transportation. As a leader in exportation among land-locked states, Tennessee has already been active in trade with those companies involved in the agreement. In 2014, more than 3,400 Tennessee companies exported $18.3 billion worth to TPP countries.
The panel discussion was moderated by the firm’s Managing Partner Todd Rolapp, and included several local and national leaders in international business, including:

- Antwaun Griffin, Deputy Assistant Secretary for U.S. Operations at the International Trade Administration
- Bailey Leopard, Lead Counsel at FedEx Express

- Thad McBride, Chair of Bass, Berry & Sims’ International Trade practice
