An article published by MedPage Today outlined the payback requirement Tennessee’s Medicaid agency, TennCare, is requiring of doctors who provided primary care services to underserved patients in 2013 and 2014. TennCare and Medicaid allege that 118 Tennessee doctors did not adhere to the requirements set forth by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for doctors to qualify for enhanced Medicaid payments. Tennessee is one of the first states to perform the federally mandated audit of primary care providers and the results could indicate how other states may enforce the regulations.
