Nashville, Tenn., (January 31, 2012) – Bass, Berry & Sims PLC is pleased to announce that Craig Bingham was named IT Director of the Year by ALM’s Law Technology News. The ninth annual “LTN Innovation Awards” recognize outstanding achievements by legal professionals in their use of technology.
“Craig’s technical expertise and leadership skills are unsurpassed. Just as important, he commands the complete confidence of the firm because of his rare ability to relate to the attorneys on their level, ensuring that their extraordinary, if not unreasonable, expectations are not just met, but exceeded,” said Anthony McFarland, a member at Bass, Berry & Sims PLC and Chair of the firm’s Technology Committee.
In his role as Director of Technology, Bingham is responsible for IT, Research Services and Records Management. He has spent more than 20 years in the technology industry, the last ten of which have been in the legal industry.
His team approach to leadership was most visible during the May 2010 flooding that was experienced throughout Middle Tennessee. In the year leading up to the flood, Bingham was instrumental in working with developers and contractors to design a technology plan in preparation of the firm’s move to the new Pinnacle at Symphony Place. The firm had only been in the new space less than six months when, in May 2010, the Cumberland River overflowed its banks causing a two-week loss of electrical power to the new building. In less than 24 hours, Bingham and his team had a replacement generator up and running; the firm’s communications, data and internet systems operating; and the attorneys began to log-in and work remotely. The IT department even set up a remote training program to show attorneys and staff how to install and use Citrix, how to redline using Citrix, how to manage complex documents and how to install and use remote printers over Citrix. Thanks to his leadership and the commitment of Bingham and his team to quickly restore and maintain the firm’s technical systems, the clients’ work was done, the attorneys were satisfied, the firm’s attorneys and staff were kept up-to-date throughout the process and a potential financial disaster was averted.
“Congratulations to Craig Bingham for demonstrating leadership, determination, and creativity in his role as Bass, Berry & Sims’ IT director. Our goal with our LTN Innovation Awards is to inspire others to look for opportunities to enhance their organization’s operations, and we applaud Bingham for his contributions,” said Monica Bay, editor-in-chief of Law Technology News magazine.
Award nominations were solicited from the magazine’s subscribers and through the publication’s website. The award recipients were selected by an independent panel of three judges, all members of LTN’s Editorial Advisory Board. The awards were presented on January 30, at the conclusion of the opening day keynote address at LegalTech New York 2012.
