Bass, Berry & Sims attorneys Kristin Bohl and Travis Lloyd have been appointed to serve in leadership positions within the American Health Law Association (AHLA), the nation’s largest, nonpartisan, 501(c)(3) educational organization devoted to legal issues in the healthcare field. In addition to Travis and Kristin, Bass, Berry & Sims attorneys Stewart Kameen and Bill Mathias will continue leadership terms within the organization.

Kristin Bohl

Kristin BohlKristin will serve as a Vice Chair of the Hospitals and Health Systems Practice Group, effective July 2026. This Practice Group addresses the legal, financial, and operational issues raised by healthcare business strategies and transactions from the perspective of hospitals and health systems. Kristin advises hospitals, health systems and other provider organizations on compliance and regulatory issues and fraud and abuse matters, with a focus on the wide range of Medicare payment models. She counsels healthcare companies on the Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute and Medicare payment policy. She guides her clients on Medicare reimbursement changes under the Quality Payment Program (QPP) in both the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) and Advanced Alternative Payment Models (Advanced APMs). Travis Lloyd

Travis joins the Health Care Transactions Planning Committee as a member, effective July 2026. This committee is responsible for organizing and presenting sessions the annual Health Care Transactions Conference that cover various aspects of healthcare transactions, including legal and business considerations, current trends, and strategies to recognize and mitigate risk. Travis focuses on complex healthcare regulatory matters. He represents a broad range of healthcare industry clients, including hospitals and health systems, ambulatory surgery centers, post-acute providers, behavioral health providers, and physician practices, as well as their strategic partners. He has significant experience in the areas of fraud and abuse, reimbursement, and health information privacy and security, as well as in the licensure, certification, and accreditation of healthcare facilities. Stewart Kameen

Stewart Kameen photoStewart will continue to serve as Chair of the AHLA’s Fraud and Abuse Practice Group. The Fraud and Abuse Practice Group provides educational content and analysis of relevant judicial, administrative and settlement decisions pertaining to fraud and abuse issues, as well as regulatory developments, enforcement efforts and compliance resources. Stewart advises healthcare clients on all aspects of federal and state healthcare laws and regulations, with a particular emphasis on fraud and abuse regulatory counseling, corporate compliance, internal investigations and government enforcement actions, qui tam litigation and transactional matters. Stewart is able to counsel providers drawing on his unique perspective informed by his experience working at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General (HHS-OIG). Bill Mathias

Bill Mathias is serving as a member of the AHLA Fraud and Compliance Forum Planning Committee. The Forum is designed to serve as both a crash-course for advisors just entering the healthcare industry and a deep dive for experienced advocates seeking new strategies. This conference features sessions led by fraud and compliance leaders who work with a wide variety of healthcare providers, as well as presenters from federal healthcare fraud regulatory and enforcement agencies.

Bill is a healthcare regulatory attorney with a focus on fraud and abuse and Stark Law issues. He draws on over 25 years of experience to help national healthcare organizations address their thorniest healthcare regulatory issues. Bill is a recognized authority on the federal Anti-Kickback Statute (AKS), the Stark Physician Self-Referral Law, the Eliminating Kickbacks in Recovery Act (EKRA) and the federal Civil Monetary Penalty regulations.
