Seniors at Orange Mound Senior Center Received Free Legal Services from Top Memphis Legal Professionals
Memphis, Tenn., July 21, 2022 – Bass, Berry & Sims and AutoZone, in conjunction with Memphis Area Legal Services, Inc. (MALS), hosted the 12th annual “Give a Little, Help a Lot” pro bono clinic at Orange Mound Senior Center on Tuesday, July 19. After a two-year hiatus from the event due to the pandemic, around 20 attorneys, paralegals and volunteers resumed the event to provide over two dozen low-income senior citizens with free legal services.
The return of the event also coincides with Bass, Berry & Sims’ 100 Acts of Service to celebrate its 100th anniversary, in which attorneys and staff are volunteering time and expanded pro bono legal services to causes important to the firm and its employees.
“We are so grateful for the opportunity to return to Orange Mound Senior Center for this important event, which has helped hundreds of its residents since 2008,” said Sehrish Siddiqui, member at Bass, Berry & Sims who helped organized this year’s clinic. “Pro bono work to ensure equality and access to justice and legal services is at the core of our firm’s identity and will always be a priority going forward. Our partnerships with AutoZone and MALS and their immense support in this collaboration throughout the years has been crucial to giving so many people access to essential legal counsel for their future.”
Since 2008, representatives from MALS, AutoZone and Bass, Berry & Sims have joined forces at the legal aid clinic to provide seniors with imperative legal advice by assisting with the preparation of healthcare directives, durable power of attorney forms, advance care plans as well as last wills and testaments.
“It has been 14 years since our first clinic, and it remains one of the most fulfilling experiences we get to be part of every year, and we are excited to have had the chance to get back to helping these residents after the pandemic forced a two-year pause,” said Amber Hitchcock, Real Estate Managing Attorney, Customer Satisfaction, at AutoZone. “It’s an amazing opportunity to provide seniors with legal guidance they may not have been able to obtain otherwise, and we hope to continue providing these important services to the wonderful people at Orange Mound Senior Center for decades to come.”
