In response to her recent appointment as president-elect-designate of American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA), Medical News interviewed Bass, Berry & Sims attorney Cindy Reisz to talk about trends and legal topics in the healthcare industry. During the conversation, Cindy discussed various issues impacting the healthcare sector, including new proposed payment models, consolidation among hospitals and health systems, the importance of data protection, recent opioid enforcement actions, and access to behavioral health services.
Addressing the changes in payment models, Cindy said “The shift from fee-for-service to a value-based payment model is something that is of critical importance to all healthcare providers. No matter what happens to the Affordable Care Act, the value-based structure is going to continue and get more sophisticated with the use of health technology.”
In her current role as president-elect-designate and eventual AHLA president, a role she will start in 2021, Cindy will be instrumental in the development of educational opportunities for its members and strategic planning for the organization.
