Bass, Berry & Sims attorney Danielle Sloane discussed the $3 million penalty recently imposed n Kindred Healthcare for failure to meet the requirements to correct improper billing practices as outlined in its corporate integrity agreement (CIA). This penalty is the largest of its kind to date. Danielle, quoted in the article about the OIG’s approach to CIA enforcement, stated “I think this penalty signals to providers and suppliers that they are not out of the woods just because they have settled and entered into a CIA; they need to continue to make compliance a priority.”
