Bass, Berry & Sims attorneys Richard Arnholt and Adam Briscoe authored an article for Federal News Network discussing how to navigate Trump administration changes to government contracting and grants.
The Trump administration’s executive orders to date have served to eliminate what the administration considers to be illegal discrimination in the form of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts; check federal regulatory initiatives; and reduce the size and scope of the federal government. Predictions place the reduction at $1-2 trillion dollars, which will decrease the number of contracts and grants from the government along with reducing the federal workforce by 20% or possibly more.
Richard and Adam highlighted how changes brought by the executive orders may affect current and future awards for contractors and grant recipients while also shifting obligations and potential liabilities. They began with a recap of key executive actions, discussed budget cuts and acquisition pauses, and concluded with practical preparations and actions contractors can take.
“While many of these executive actions are currently being litigated, and in some circumstances enjoined, it is critical that contractors and grant recipients stay informed and vigilant of the resulting changes, take proactive steps to protect their interests, and ensure continued compliance with the federal laws and regulations,” advised the authors.
