Bass, Berry & Sims attorneys Anna Grizzle and Sydney Nash authored an article in New Perspectives outlining the steps health systems can take to limit the possibility of being the target of a whistleblower complaint. The article focuses on maintaining compliance with the relationship between health systems and physicians. New Perspectives is the quarterly journal published by the Association of Healthcare Internal Auditors. The guidelines proposed by Anna and Sydney in the article can help health systems remain legally compliant with federal laws, such as the Stark Law and Anti-Kickback Statute, and avoid costly investigations and penalties.
The full article, “Why and How to Audit Physician Relationships,” was published in the Spring 2016 issue of New Perspectives and is available online (subscription required).
