We assembled a multi-disciplinary team of attorneys to conduct an internal investigation into a claim made by an employed medical director. The physician originally alleged a hostile work environment. The investigation was expanded when the physician alleged that the employer improperly pressured him and other medical directors to patients in violation of the federal healthcare anti-kickback laws. The investigation included conducting scores of witness interviews with current employees, former employees and third parties. We also engaged in extensive review of hundreds of thousands of electronic documents. The investigation resulted in several resignations/discharges, a presentation to the company’s board of directors as well as a revamping of the company’s internal fraud and abuse controls.
