Bass, Berry & Sims attorneys Mary Leigh Pirtle will present at the 2025 June Chapter Meeting hosted by the Middle Tennessee Society of Human Resource Management (MTSHRM). The presentation, titled, “Guidance for Managing Accommodation Issues Under the ADA,” will take place in Brentwood, Tennessee at the Vaco Office on June 5, 2025. The presentation will cover a broad range of topics pertaining to accommodation issues under the ADA, including:

  • How to identify (and help supervisors identify) when an employer’s obligations under the ADA may come into play.
  • Engaging in the interactive discussion with employees regarding their accommodation requests.
  • Requesting medical information in response to such requests.
  • Whether an employee who has asserted the presence of a disability may still be disciplined.
  • Addressing mental health issues under the ADA.

The learning objectives for audience members include:

  • Flagging common pitfalls in the interactive process under the ADA
  • Understand how leaves of absence are regulated by application of the ADA
  • Learn best practices for HR professionals managing ADA obligations
