Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month is a great time to recognize the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of AAPI communities. It is also an opportunity to reflect on the importance of inclusion and representation in the legal community. In celebration, we highlight one of our attorneys, Corporate & Securities Associate Logan McCallie.

Q: Which area of law do you practice?
A: I’m in the corporate group. My practice is primarily M&A and some capital markets.
Q: What do you most enjoy about Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month?
A: Mainly just the opportunities to learn something new. Whether it’s something about my culture specifically or another, I always feel like I learn something new about AANHPI heritage each May. I also love that it gives me an excuse to support Asian-owned local businesses and convince other people to eat Asian food with me.
Q: Can you share something about your heritage or upbringing that shaped who you are today?
A: I’m just very appreciative of the opportunities that I’ve been given as a result of my mother’s and grandparents’ sacrifice in immigrating to the United States. Often times when I’m having a hard day at work, I think about how much has been sacrificed and overcome by family just to get me to where I am.
Q: What’s one tradition, dish or saying from your culture that makes you feel connected to your roots?
A: My favorite Vietnamese dish is probably banh xeo, which is like a savory crepe or pancake that you eat by hand with lettuce, herbs and nuoc cham. You don’t see it at a ton of Vietnamese restaurants because it’s labor intensive and time consuming, but it’s a dish that my grandmother makes as a centerpiece every time we have a family meal. I order it anywhere I can find it and always think of my family when I do.
