Bass, Berry & Sims secured lawful permanent resident status for a longtime Tennessee resident following a years-long immigration matter involving an application for Cancellation of Removal, one of the most difficult forms of discretionary immigration relief to obtain. The client, who was detained during a 2018 federal workplace enforcement action in Tennessee, is the father of two U.S.-citizen children with significant special needs. We developed an extensive evidentiary record demonstrating the hardship the family would face if the client were removed from the country. Allison Acker represented him at his merits hearing in 2022. Earlier this year, more than seven years after the initial filing, the client’s application was granted, allowing him to remain in the United States as a lawful permanent resident.
