As part of its recognition for the top volunteer organizations in the January/February edition of Health Law Connections magazine, the American Health Law Association (AHLA) asked some of the top volunteers about their experiences with the organization. Bass, Berry & Sims attorneys Jennifer Michael, Danielle Sloane and Julia Tamulis discussed how volunteering with AHLA has impacted their careers.
When asked about what she found most rewarding about her experience working with AHLA, Julia said, “Volunteering with AHLA unlocks a network of peers in the health law community who support each other in navigating complex questions in a constantly changing regulatory environment … These interactions not only enhance attorneys’ practice of health law, but can be the basis for meaningful, career-long professional relationships.”
In response to a question about how the volunteering experience contributed to her career’s success, Danielle noted, “By participating in writing and webinars, our attorneys have
learned health law topics with a greater level of depth and detail than they get from just listening alone. In addition, they get to share their experiences with the health law community so that others can learn about it, and so that potential clients understand that they can be a resource if that topic is an issue they are facing.”
Jennifer was asked about advice she would give to those interested in volunteering with AHLA and said, “AHLA thrives because of its volunteers, and volunteering is a rewarding way to grow professionally, build connections, and contribute to the broader health law community.”
