Nashville, Tenn., (January 26, 2010) – The Nashville, Tennessee chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP) has announced the winners of its Commercial Real Estate Development Awards for 2010. Bass, Berry & Sims PLC will receive the Office Lease of the Year Award. The firm’s new Nashville home, The Pinnacle at Symphony Place, developed by Atlanta-based Barry Real Estate Companies, will receive Office Development of the Year. The awards will be presented during a gala at The Hutton Hotel on February 25.

Bass, Berry & Sims PLC completed its move into the LEED-certified Pinnacle at Symphony Place in December. It is a 28 story office tower, designed for environmental sustainability, with over 514,000 rentable square feet of office space and 1,000 parking places. Barry Real Estate Companies hired noted LEED consultant Barbara Morawa with BVM Engineering in Atlanta to assist in the LEED certification process. The firm has leased 174,000 square feet of space in the building. Bass, Berry & Sims PLC member James S. Tate, Jr. led the lease negotiation team.

Key points in the environmentally friendly design of the Pinnacle Tower include a 30,000 square foot “green roof,” zero CFC-based refrigerants, improved indoor air quality, a building-wide recycling program, a high percentage of recycled and sustainable materials used in the building’s construction, a state of the art water harvesting system designed to reduce demand for domestic water use by 70 percent, water efficient landscaping and plumbing fixtures, covered bicycle storage, preferential parking for earth-friendly vehicles and carpools, optimized energy performance in the HVAC and lighting systems, maximized daylight to reduce energy usage for lighting, and Energy Star compliant roofing. Bass, Berry & Sims PLC’s interior construction mirrored the construction of the building, and stressed energy efficient design, extensive use of natural light, use of recycled materials, recycling of construction materials, and the use of renewable natural resources.

LEED is an internationally recognized green building certification system, providing third-party verification that a building or community was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performance in the areas that matter most: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.
