Attorney Spotlight: Jordana Nelson

December 4, 2017

Jordana Nelson1. Tell us about your practice.

My practice is based in commercial real estate transactions with a focus on affordable housing and economic incentives.

2. What is an interesting trend happening right now related to your field of practice?

As in many fields of practice, the affordable housing industry is quite focused on the recently unveiled tax reform bills. Low income housing tax credits are affected by the tax reform bills passed by the House and Senate. On a more local level, there has been a more intense focus on payment in lieu of tax transactions for properties financed with LIHTCs in the past few years. That has created an interesting intersection of the two areas on which my practice is focused.

3. How does your prior work experience as General Counsel at LHP Capital LLC, a private developer and manager of multi-family housing properties, inform your work with firm clients?

Serving as general counsel to a private developer has given me unique insight into the corporate pressures that our clients may be facing. Having worked in the same office as those responsible for managing construction projects, preparing financial reports and sourcing real estate, I have an appreciation for the need for counsel to negotiate clear, concise and easily administered documents. In addition, being the only in-house lawyer at the company required me to be very practical in approaching legal issues.
