Ms. Swafford, a Member of the firm, focuses her practice on complex litigation, consisting primarily of healthcare and intellectual property matters, as well as internal investigations.  She has substantial experience in federal and state court and has handled jury and bench trials, mediations, and arbitrations.

Her recent legal experience includes representing public corporations in large scale internal investigations, defending a pharmaceutical corporation in a mass tort case for over 2,000 cases, winning the defense of an insurance company in a multi-million dollar arbitration claim, and successfully litigating an intellectual property and breach of contract case to a favorable conclusion in a federal court bench trial.  Ms Swafford's clients most often consist of large public companies and many healthcare companies.  She has handled a variety of litigation matters, including licensing disputes, class actions, patent/trademark/copyright litigation, insurance coverage disputes, embezzlement, covenants not to compete, state taxation, and a variety of fraud and breach of contract cases.  Ms. Swafford has extensive experience with e-discovery and regularly advises clients on how best to prepare for the challenges of e-discovery. 

She graduated summa cum laude and received a B.A. from the University of Tennessee and earned her juris doctorate, summa cum laude, from Case Western Reserve University School of Law, where she was a member of the Case Western Reserve University Law Review and the Order of the Coif.  Ms. Swafford clerked for Judge H. Ted Milburn, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.

She is currently admitted to all courts in Tennessee; the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Tennessee; the U.S. District Court, Middle District of Tennessee; and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.  Ms. Swafford volunteers with the local bar's Pro Bono program, has recently co-chaired the Parent Lawyer Committee of the Nashville Bar and is the state coordinator for Tennessee for the ABA Women's Advocate Committee.  She also serves as chair of the firm's lateral hiring committee.
