Steve Taylor is a Member of the firm's Nashville office. His practice in the Corporate and Securities and Financial Institutions areas includes insurance and bank regulatory matters and corporate transactions as well as general corporate representations. Steve has advised clients on mergers and acquisitions involving insurance holding companies, insurance companies, bank holding companies, national banks, state member and non-member banks, federal savings institutions, reinsurers, HMOs and insurance agencies. He also regularly advises financial institution clients on a broad range of federal and state regulatory matters, including de novo formation domestic insurance companies, Tennessee captive insurance companies and Tennessee state chartered banks, and represents clients on licensure of insurance agencies, third party administrators, self-insured workers’ compensation companies and insurance producers. Steve regularly represents clients before the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance, the Tennessee Department of Financial Institutions and the federal banking agencies. Steve also represents corporate clients on negotiation of manuscripted insurance policies, insurance coverage issues and policy disputes.
Steve received his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University and his J.D. from George Mason University School of Law, where he was recognized for Best Scholastic Performance in a specialized program of Banking and Financial Services Law. He is listed in Best Lawyers® in Insurance Law, Banking and Finance Law and Financial Services Regulation Law, and is a member of the Federation of Regulatory Counsel, Inc., a professional association of insurance regulatory lawyers. In addition, Steve has been recognized in Mid-South Super Lawyers and named Best of the Bar by the Nashville Business Journal. He also is a member of the Lawyers Committee and a past member of the Government Relations Committee of the Tennessee Bankers Association and has lectured for TBA seminars on the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act. Prior to joining the firm, Steve served as Associate General Counsel of First American Corporation, a multistate bank and insurance holding company.
Steve currently serves on the firm’s Investment Committee. He is a member of the American, Tennessee and Nashville Bar Associations. Steve serves on the board of directors of the Nashville Downtown Partnership, Inc. and on the advisory board of directors of the Tennessee Repertory Theatre, Inc. He has previously served as assistant treasurer and a member of the board of directors of the Nashville Business Coalition, Inc. and as counsel and a member of the board of directors of The Historic Carnton Plantation Association, Inc. He is active at St. George’s Episcopal Church, having served as Junior Warden, chairman of the Stewardship Committee, chairman of the Outreach Commission and a member of the Vestry, the Executive Commission and the Funding Committee.
