Scott Noonan Discusses Hospitals Employing Physicians for Nashville Post and The City Paper

Scott Noonan, member at Bass, Berry & Sims PLC and co-chair of the firm’s Healthcare Department, is extensively quoted regarding the trend of physicians turning to hospital and health system employment to safeguard their financial and lifestyle stability in The Nashville Post and The City Paper. The article, titled “Doctors for Sale: Industry Pressures and the Specter of Reform are Again Pushing Physicians Into the Arms of Hospitals,” appears in the January 4, 2010 print edition of The City Paper and online edition of The Nashville Post.

From the article:

“They’re sort of caught between the pressures of declining reimbursements with increased pressure to make capital investments in their practice,” said Scott Noonan, a health care attorney at Nashville law firm Bass Berry & Sims.

“A new generation of physicians have emerged that are more wired to be employees and are more seeking out scenarios where they’re employed by hospital systems,” said Bass Berry’s Noonan.

Stay tuned for more of these and other employment arrangements in 2010, experts say. According to Noonan, “There will continue to be a steady stream of physicians selling their practices to hospitals.”
