Primary Care Providers Win Challenge of CMS Interpretation of Enhanced Payment Law

With the help and support of the Tennessee Medical Association, 21 Tennessee physicians of underserved communities joined together and retained Bass, Berry & Sims to file suit against the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to stop improper collection efforts. Our team, led by David King, was successful in halting efforts to recoup TennCare payments that were used legitimately to expand services in communities that needed them. Read more

Bass, Berry & Sims attorneys Anna Grizzle, Lauren Gaffney and Sydney Nash authored a chapter of the 2015 edition of Health Care Provider and Supplier Audits Practice Guide published by the American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA). This guide provides an analysis of the intricacies related to Medicare, Medicaid and commercial payer environment. As described by AHLA, the publication covers the following topics:

  • Introduction to audit contractor landscape
  • Medicare Part A and B contractor audits
  • Medicare Part C and D audits and appeals
  • Medicaid audits
  • Commercial payer overpayment disputes

Anna, Lauren and Sydney authored the chapter "Medicaid Audits." Anna authored a portion of the chapter "Challenges to Statistical Extrapolation."
