For nearly 40 years, John Popham has assisted clients with real estate transactions, including the purchase, sale and development of commercial real estate properties. In addition, he has significant experience negotiating commercial tenant lease agreements. John frequently works with companies on mergers and acquisitions that involve a real estate component, advising on all real estate aspects in order to protect the client's investment. John has advised owners of hospitals, senior care facilities, physician groups and other clients within the healthcare industry in connection with the acquisition, development, financing, leasing and disposition of nursing homes, medical office buildings, clinics and other healthcare facility real estate, both within and outside of Tennessee. His practice areas include:
- Healthcare Real Estate — Represents providers of healthcare services in connection with the acquisition, leasing and disposition of nursing homes and other senior care facilities and hospital facility real estate both within and outside of Tennessee.
- Healthcare Finance — Represents national nursing home operator in syndicated revolving credit and term loan secured facilities and related intercreditor agreements with lessors of the operator.
- Commercial Real Estate — Represents real estate clients in connection with commercial real estate acquisitions and dispositions.
- Office Properties — Represents tenants in connection with leasing of office buildings and space, including physician groups for medical office space.
Prior to joining Bass, Berry & Sims, John was a shareholder at Harwell Howard Hyne Gabbert & Manner, P.C. (h3gm). He began his legal career in 1978 with Tune, Entrekin and White, where his practice included residential and commercial real estate, civil litigation and coal brokerage transactions, before joining h3gm in 1993. Following college, John served as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve.
