Bill Ozier's more than 40-year practice as a labor and employment attorney has earned him national praise that includes 30 consecutive years of recognition in Best Lawyers in America® for labor and employment and top-tier rankings in Chambers USA for his "well documented and focused process" on labor and employment matters (from Chambers USA 2013). Bill's ability to provide practical employment advice while remaining mindful of the cost/benefit considerations for the business has resulted in numerous long-term client relationships. One such relationship includes the representation of a prominent Tennessee university and academic medical center in the defense of employment discrimination claims, including tenure denial cases, student lawsuits and general labor and employment advice.

Bill represents a wide variety of clients – including a number of Fortune 500 companies – from a broad scope of industries, including manufacturing, distribution, retail, education and healthcare. With a wealth of experience in both traditional labor matters and employment discrimination cases, Bill's practice involves:

  • Traditional Labor Matters – Union organizing, collective bargaining, unfair labor practices, and representation in connection with arbitration cases arising out of contract issues and disciplinary actions.
  • Employment Discrimination – Defending a broad range of employment discrimination cases brought under federal and state law, including tenure denial cases and student lawsuits.
  • Labor & Employment Law – Providing advice on day-to-day labor and employment law issues for both union and non-union clients; handling non-compete cases, both to enforce provisions and defend employers and their employees against their enforcement.

Bill has spent much of his career in service to Bass, Berry & Sims and the community. He is a former Chair of the Labor and Employment Practice Group and served as managing partner of the firm from 1987-1992. Currently, he is serving as chairman of the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
