Primary Care Providers Win Challenge of CMS Interpretation of Enhanced Payment Law

With the help and support of the Tennessee Medical Association, 21 Tennessee physicians of underserved communities joined together and retained Bass, Berry & Sims to file suit against the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to stop improper collection efforts. Our team, led by David King, was successful in halting efforts to recoup TennCare payments that were used legitimately to expand services in communities that needed them. Read more

Alison Grippo represents national and local clients in litigation related to managed care and other healthcare disputes; data security, privacy and cyberliability; technology and intellectual property; and First Amendment issues. Prior to joining the firm, Alison worked at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and in the chambers of the Honorable John T. Nixon of the Middle District of Tennessee.

Her practice includes:

  • Healthcare Disputes – Representing healthcare providers on a range of matters including managed care litigation, medical malpractice, the False Claims Act (FCA) and healthcare fraud investigations.
  • Intellectual Property Litigation – Representing clients in intellectual property disputes related to patent, trademark, trade dress, copyright, false advertising, unfair competition, data security and identity protection, and the First Amendment. 
  • Consumer Protection Litigation – Representing clients in claims related to unfair or deceptive business practices under the Lanham Act, Tennessee Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and a variety of other state and federal consumer protection statutes. 
  • Data Security, Privacy & Cyberliability – Counseling clients that have experienced significant security breaches involving sensitive business information or customers' personal information and compliance with state security breach notification laws.

Alison assisted in drafting and advocated for passage of the Tennessee Civil Justice Act of 2011. She is a member of the firm's pro bono committee and leads the firm's pro bono adoption program. Alison also volunteers her time at legal clinics with Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and is an active alumnus of Vanderbilt Law School.
