In June 2016, AmSurg Corp. and Envision Healthcare Holdings, Inc. (Envision) announced they have signed a definitive merger agreement pursuant to which the companies will combine in an all-stock transaction. Upon completion of the merger, which is expected to be tax-free to the shareholders of both organizations, the combined company will be named Envision Healthcare Corporation and co-headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee and Greenwood Village, Colorado. The company's common stock is expected to trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol: EVHC. Bass, Berry & Sims served as lead counsel on the transaction, led by Jim Jenkins.   • Healthcare Litigation: Russ represents major healthcare companies in claims including healthcare IT disputes related to failed software implementation and contractual disputes.
  • Administrative and Regulatory Proceedings: Russ has successfully defended clients in numerous consumer protection investigations and civil investigative demands brought by various state attorneys general and other investigative or regulatory bodies.
  • Class Actions & Shareholder Suits: Russ regularly represents public and private corporations, non-profits and cooperative associations in class actions and shareholder derivate litigation in state and federal trial and appellate courts, as well as mediation and arbitration proceedings.

Before joining Bass, Berry & Sims, Russ served as an assistant Tennessee attorney general, where he represented the state in appellate litigation, legislative affairs, and litigation to defend and enforce an historic $4.8 billion settlement between the state and several leading tobacco manufacturers.

Russ formerly served in the United States Army and is currently a Lieutenant Colonel, Judge Advocate Generals Corps in the Tennessee Army National Guard, where he serves as Command Judge Advocate for the 230th Sustainment Brigade.
