Philip Berg is an associate in Bass, Berry & Sims' Healthcare Practice Area.  Phil's areas of practice include: assisting health care providers with federal and state regulatory and operational issues; analyzing fraud and abuse, self-referral and related issues affecting health care companies; representing ambulatory surgery center companies; representing disease management companies; conducting due diligence and analysis of joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions from a business and health care regulatory perspective; and advising clients with respect to privacy law concerns. 

In December 2009, Phil co-authored the chapter "Use of Non-Competition Covenants in Physician Employment Relationships" of the Representing Physicians Handbook published by the American Health Lawyers Association.

Phil graduated with honors from the University of Chicago with a B.A. degree in 1998. In 2004, he received his Master of Business Administration from Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University and his law degree from Vanderbilt University Law School.  Phil joined Bass, Berry & Sims as an associate in September of 2004.

While in law school, Phil was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, the Nashville Bar Association Pro Bono Program and the International Law Society and a leader of the Christian Legal Society. He also received the Vanderbilt Scholastic Excellence Award in Law & Finance of Mergers & Acquisitions and the Franklin & White Best Brief Award. Phil served as associate editor of the Vanderbilt Law Review and authored, "Unfit to Serve: Permanently Barring People from Serving as Officers and Directors of Publicly Traded Companies After the Sarbanes-Oxley Act," 56 Vand. L. Rev. 1871 (2003).

After living in Japan for five years, Phil speaks Japanese. He and his wife have two children.
