Bass, Berry & Sims attorney Robert Echols provided comment for an article detailing the judicial nominee process and how that process has imposed several vacancies throughout the country. According to the article, "29 nominees are currently awaiting confirmation to federal judgeships across the country." Three of those nominees are from Tennessee and would fill vacancies in courts in Nashville and Memphis. While these nominees have been approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee, they are awaiting confirmation by the U.S. Senate. In Tennessee, these vacancies have created added workload for the existing judges. As Robert commented for the article, "'[t]hey have three judges working very, very hard to try to fill the workload of four judges.'"
