Attorney Spotlight: Angelica Fortney

February 6, 2015

Angelica FortneyTell us about your practice.

I assist clients with the design, implementation and administration of tax-qualified retirement plans, welfare plans and other employee benefits. I also provide support on employee benefit and compensation issues that arise during corporate mergers and acquisitions.

Why did you choose to pursue a career in the legal field?

Law touches every aspect of our lives – from the software terms and conditions that we accept to use the newest gadget (hopefully after having read them), to the continued policy debates over healthcare. I felt that a legal background would give me more insight into the ways that those things affect me and my community while developing transferable skills for my career.

How did your experience in the attorney general's office prepare you for practicing in a law firm?

The research and other preparatory work I did to assist my supervising attorney were obviously helpful practice for a law firm associate, but I also use the listening and communication skills I honed there now with colleagues and clients.
